Difference Between Structural Epoxy and Super Glue

Difference Between Structural Epoxy and Super Glue

Industrial adhesives are primarily used in manufacturing units to bond various kinds of components and materials via adhesion and cohesion. Industrial projects sometimes require structural epoxy and super glue in specific cases. While both work as adhesives, each one has unique properties that are useful in different situations.

Key Differences between Epoxy and Super Glue

Epoxy

Most manufacturers refer to structural epoxy simply as epoxy. It is extensively used in the industrial sector to maintain a strong bond when it encounters resistance from other angles. It's a resin-based formula that comes with a hardener. Epoxy is useful for rebuilding certain voids and structural damages. The resin material can stick items together with a thin layer and become a new component altogether.

Better Shear Strength

The hardened resin body of a structural epoxy layer has exceptional strength, and it will resist any pulls and bend from any angle. Furthermore, it's the perfect small item void filler because it has enough power to uphold any object above or below its application surface.

Coating and Insulation

Industrial-grade epoxy can cover entire metal rebars and rods in construction and development projects. Alternatively, it serves as an electrical potting compound guaranteeing maximum conductibility while dampening any circuit vibrations and dislodging.

Difficult to Remove

Once the epoxy hardens, it's difficult to remove it from the surface of the object. However, if you use acetone and vinegar before it dries, you can still wipe it off the surface. Keep in mind that structural epoxy can completely cure within hours or a single day.

Super Glue

This quick-drying glue with massive one-angle strength has seen wide use in artistic, display, and various industrial and commercial projects. It has a crystal clear finish and is often used for arts and handicraft projects or household purposes.

Lower Shear Strength

Super Glue provides a lower shear strength which indicates that it can bond items well but cannot hold its bond strength when stress is applied from different angles. It is more practical for projects requiring an adhesive application on just one plane of force, such as a detached sole or a ceramic display figure that has been damaged.

Singular Cyanoacrylate

Super Glue is less dense than epoxy because it uses only a single cyanoacrylate, which hardens the bond between items when exposed to air and moisture.

Fuse-Oriented

It can fuse anything and never detach as long as there is one force direction. It dries instantly and does not require clamping, and it dries up on any surface, giving a crystal clear finish.
