4 Key Functions of a Threadlocker

4 Key Functions of a Threadlocker

Whether you are working on a personal DIY project or a large-scale manufacturing operation, you will likely need to employ the aid of a threadlocker to help you with key assembly processes. A threadlocker is a liquid binding agent created specifically to provide an extra layer of protection for any lock device. It is used when the manufacturer wants to guarantee additional strength to their fastenings. The name threadlocker alludes to this, as the binding agent locks the thread of a fastening together.

In today’s blog, we will be exploring the four main functions of a threadlocker:

1. Protection against vibrations.

When exposed to excessive vibration, fastenings can come loose. However, when the space between the male and female threads has been bound tightly together with a threadlocker, the risks of this occurring is drastically reduced.

2. Protection against moisture.

Because the spaces between the male and female threads of a fastening are completely sealed with a threadlocker, you need not worry about moisture penetration. This is important for fastening made out of metal and liquid can cause oxidization, rusting, and corrosion. Over time, this can lead to the breakdown of the fastening.

3. Protection against temperature.

Excessively hot or cold weather can have a negative effect on fastenings. As you know, heat causes matter to expand while the cold causes it to shrink or contract. Both of these actions can result in the breakdown of a fastening. Threadlockers not only prevent this from happening by keeping everything secure, they can also protect against other foreign elements caused by weather conditions such as dust and debris.

4. Improves torque retention.

Because of its super strong grip, your fasteners will have drastically improved torque. Traditional fasteners that do not use the aid of threadlockers or other bonding agents will only have holding strength up to the point of contact. With binding agents and threadlockers, force can be transferred throughout the entire piece as it is completely bound together.

These four functions are just some of the benefits brought by threadlockers. For more information on bonding agents, contact the experts at Invertech Canada today.
